Art VE3SQG provided those present with a detailed sheet explaining the problems with the current repeater, and a proposal for replacement. Art explained that a lot of the problems were related to the receiver, and that the replacement Hamtronics receiver had solved a lot of problems. Unfortunately it only operated for three days. After discussing the proposed replacement a KRP 5000 repeater the following motion was made.

Moved by Art VE3SQG and seconded by Tim VE3UO.

THAT the Prince Edward Radio Club spend up to $3000 from its own funds to purchase a KRP 5000 repeater and the associated software. CARRIED

Treasurer Al VE3FZ spoke about the financial implications of the purchase. After the purchase there will be a balance of $1700 - $1800 in the club account. It was suggested that a letter be sent to the members outlining the situation and that those who wished to do so could make a donation to offset some of the repeater cost. SEE ATTACHED LETTER

New Repeater Project

At our last meeting the club decided to purchase a new repeater to replace the existing VE3TJU which is old and has exhibited a number of problems which have proven difficult to resolve. It is planned to refurbish the current repeater and use it as a backup.

The new repeater will cost approximately $3000. While the club has the funds to buy it, it will leave the treasury at about a third of its current level of $4700.

A number of people who value the repeater have come forward over the past few months and indicated a willingness to donate money toward helping pay for the new machine should the club decide to purchase one.

If others wish to make a donation on a purely voluntary basis, such monies will be most welcome. The identity of the donors and the amounts given will be kept confidential and only the total raised will be shown in the financial statements of the club.

If you would like to make such a donation, please send your cheque to the above address, indicating it is for the repeater fund.

If you have any questions or comments please contact me at VE3FZ@kos.net or at 613-476-8462.

Thanks Al Law VE3FZ – Treasurer Prince Edward Radio Club
